Explosive Derby Trial for So You Think Colt

Tara Madgwick - Saturday October 19

Progressive So You Think colt Thought of That put some heat into the Victoria Derby when blitzing his rivals to make the Group III MRC Ladbrokes Classic (2000m) at Caulfield on Saturday into a procession.

The further he went, the better he got, an ominous sign for those heading to the Group I VRC Victoria Derby over 2500 metres in two weeks time.

“He’s been great since we put the blinkers on him as they make him concentrate when he needs to,” said Linda Meech.

“He could go around again, he’s not even blowing!”

Though of That has been a work in progress only breaking his maiden last start at Donald by eight lengths at his sixth start when the blinkers went on, so he’s on an upswing at the right time.

Bred and sold by Tarcoola Stud, Thought of That is the first foal of Hold Me Closer, a half-sister by Danehill Dancer (IRE) to Golden Slipper runner-up and stakes-winner How Funny, the dam of stakes-winner Jester’s Girl, in turn the dam of stakes-winner Assimilate.

The female family is all about speed, so Thought of That’s stamina is definitely coming from Dad, although his firth three dam sires Danehill Dancer (IRE), Sir Tristam (IRE) and Twig Moss Fr) have all left classic winners.

Hold Me Closer has a yearling colt by Press Statement and a filly foal this spring by Spirit of Boom.

Thought of That is the 21st stakes-winner for High Chaparral’s champion son So You Think, who stands at a fee of $38,500 at Coolmore.
