Global Quest Makes it Stakes Winner 197 for More Than Ready (USA) in the Breeders' Plate

Mark Smith - Saturday October 5

Bottled up between runners, James McDonald was sweating on a run race favourite Global Quest and when it appeared the son of More Than Ready (USA) let down impressively to capture Saturday's Group III Breeders' Plate (1000m) at Randwick.

The Chris Waller-trained colt equalled the feat of another son of More Than Ready (USA), the sadly missed Sebring, who won the Breeders' Plate in 2008 on his way to earning Champion 2yo honours with wins in the Group 1 STC Golden Slipper and Group 1 AJC Sires' Produce Stakes before becoming a leading stallion. Owned by Aquis Farm & Highgrove Stud, Global Quest defeated Postcode, a son of another Breeders' Plate and Golden Slipper winner Vancouver, by a length with Godolphin's Lonhro colt Beyliks three-quarter of a length back in third.

Coolmore would be thrilled with the start of Vancouver with his first two starters Ticket To Ride, who was third in the Group III Gimcrack Stakes and Postcode.

Waller said that the Aquis Farm colt would follow a path aimed at the Golden Slipper in March.

"(Racing NSW CEO) Peter V'Landys was just on the phone and he said have a look at the Golden Gift, it's a $1 million race in about four weeks time," Waller told AAP.

"I think we'll be realistic, sit down with the team and work out a path to the Golden Slipper."

Global Quest (pictured below as a yearling ) has a real stallions pedigree.

Consigned by Highgrove Stud to the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, he was knocked down to Aquis Farms for $340,000 with Highgrove buying back in.

The son of More Than Ready (USA) is the first foal of the well-performed Fastnet Rock mare Global Dream who placed in the Group II BRC Champagne Classic and was fourth in the Magic Millions 2yo Classic won by Real Surreal.

Global Dream is a three-quarter-sister to Group II ATC Shannon Stakes winner Noire (Foxwedge) and a half-sister to the stakes-placegetters Maraatib (Redoute's Choice) and Valoura (Exceed And Excel).

Global Dream is a daughter of the Woodman mare Valadon who is a three-quarter sister to to Timborina who won the Group II Wakeful Stakes and placed in the Group 1 Canterbury Guineas and Group 1 VRC Oaks and is a half-sister to Media Grade II Magic Night Stakes and Grade III Sand Domenico Stakes and placed in the Group 1 Golden Slipper and Group 1 AJC The Galaxy.

The world's most prolific shuttler, More Than Ready (USA) takes his tally of stakes-winners to 197.

What a boom for the industry that the son of Southern Halo made a surprise return to Vinery Stud this year.
