Chain Of Lightning Bounces Back

Mark Smith - Saturday October 15

After losing her unbeaten record when third on a heavy track in the How Now Stakes, Chain Of Lightning bounced back to dominate Saturday’s Group II Lexus Tristarc Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.

Ridden by Luke Nolen for Peter Moody, the 4yo daughter of Fighting Sun was in a race of her own in the final 100m. She defeated Palaisipan (So You Think) by one and three-quarter lengths with Pride Of Jenni (Pride Of Dubai) a head back in third.

The Stuart Ramsay homebred advances her record to six wins and a third from seven starts with earnings of $511,130.

“It’s a little bit bittersweet watching that. I think she definitely should still be unbeaten. She’s such a classy mare,” assistant trainer Catherine Coleman said.

“Luke has worked so hard this spring and I’m so thrilled for him to get this win today.

“She’s just a remarkable horse and to still front up and willing to do the job so she could possible go to the Eagle or the Empire Rose”

Nolen said it was nice to get on the mare.

“I’ve done a lot with her at home and Jamie (Kah) warmed the seat nicely for me,” Nolen said.

“I’m glad I got a chance to ride her on race day.

“She’s a very nice filly and relatively untapped. They’re going to have a lot of fun with her racing and beyond her career breeding. She’s got a high amount of quality about her.”

Chain Of Lightning is the best of two winners from as many to race for the winning Perugino mare Magic Art.

A daughter of the Group III Magic Night stakes winner Mardi’s Magic (Kenny’s Best Pal), Magic Art was recently sold at the Inglis July (Late) Online Sale for $3,250 when in foal to Better Land.

Fighting Sun (Northern Meteor), died in 2020 after leaving six crops.
