Divine Prophet's Promitto Goes Two for Two in Skyline Stakes

Mark Smith - Saturday February 26

A soft winner over 900m on a slow track at Newcastle on February 12, the David Atkins-trained Promitto took the quantum leap to stakes company in his stride when he found conditions to suit in the Group II Elite Sand and Soil Skyline Stakes (1200m) at Randwick.

A first Randwick winner in two years for Christian Reith, the son of Divine Prophet proved the superior wet tracker in defeating the Russian Revolution colt Rise Of The Masses by two lengths with the Winning Award gelding Jemeldi three-quarter lengths back in third.

Promitto is a homebred for Matthew Chidgey, who is unsure if Promitto is nominated for the Golden Slipper.

“I don’t think so, I don’t know. We just pay the bills and let Dave run the race,” Chidgey said.

“We will worry about a drink tonight and leave that to Dave (Atkins).

“We bred him. We raced his mum, so we have had the family from a long way back. Peter O’Brien put us onto Divine Prophet, and away we went.

“It’s just good to win a race anywhere. It will be a good drive home. Dave has always had an opinion of the horse. He was confident that he would handle the conditions, and he was reasonably confident that he would run well.

“The dam wasn’t real good.  We have been brought up with racing, it’s not as if we have just got into it.”

Promitto is the second winner from as many foals of the Lonhro mare Lohgairo whose career highlights in 14 starts came with wins at Cessnock and Taree.

Her dam Air She Goes (Air De France) was a dual Listed stakes-winner and was fourth in Porto Rocca’s Group 1 Coolmore Classic.

Lohgairo has a yearling filly by Kermadec and was not served in 2020.

Promitto is the second stakes-winner for Aquis Farm’s Divine Prophet after the Group III VRC Ottawa Stakes winner See You In Heaven.
