Piping Hot is Red Hot

Mark Smith - Wednesday October 6

It’s been a good few days for Highclere Stud’s More Than Ready (USA) mare Piping Hot.

The dam of Saturday’s enormously impressive Group III Gimcrack Stakes winner Coolangatta, Piping Hot struck again with the Snitzel gelding Snitzonfire who kept his unbeaten record intact at Rosehill, Wednesday.

Eight promising lightly raced, three-year-olds went to the post for the Vinery benchmark 69 over 1300m.

Tim Clark dictated the pace on the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Snitzonfire. However, Nash Rawiller, on the heavily backed favourite Depiction (Exceed And Excel), made sure he did not have a too easy time of it.

Snitzonfire worried Depiction out of it by a short-head after the son of Exceed And Excel put his head in front at the 200m.

The Fastnet Rock colt Park Avenue was one and a half lengths back in third under his topweight of 60.5kgs.

Snitzonfire made a winning debut at Nowra on September 19. The horse he defeated there, Spats Pav Bowie (Star Witness), was an impressive winner at Goulburn yesterday.

“He just showed so much courage, he didn’t give in,” stable representative Neil Paine said.

“This his is a (half) brother to Coolangatta who won the Gimcrack on Saturday. It was a good result for everyone involved.

“This was a strong three-year-old race. We take out horses down to Nowra or Goulburn to win their maiden, and they show improvement.”

Snitzonfire a $425,000 Magic Millions yearling

Gai Waterhouse, Adrian Bott Racing, and Mt Hallowell Stud bought Snitzonfire for $425,000 from the Milburn Creek draft at the 2020 Magic Millions Gold Coast.

He is the first foal of the Canterbury and Newcastle winner Piping Hot, a $320,000 purchase by John and Jake Warren at the 2015 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Piping Hot is a half-sister to the Group 1 MRC Blue Diamond Stakes winner Reaan (Hussonet), a daughter of the Group II Moonee Valley Oaks winner Ribe (Danehill).

Plenty to look forward to for Piping Hot. Following Coolangatta, she  has a yearling filly by Dundeel and was covered by Capitalist last spring.
